Savvy Sistah: Dolores de Vega

This lady is beautiful! She is Dolores de Vega a contestant on She's Got the Look, a TV Land show for models over 35 years old . Can you believe she's a 72 year old grandmother! I need to find out what her beauty secrets are, because they are definitely working for her. Look at her on the cover of Jet magazine in 1956, she truly aged gracefully.

Savvy Sistah: Jennifer Hudson

I don't care to much for the Grammy Awards, however I was looking forward to seeing Jennifer Hudson. She sang the ballad "You Pulled Me Through" and you could feel every word she was singing. At the end of the song, I think I had more tears in my eyes than she did. She accepted the Grammy for the Best R & B album wearing a black, white and silver cocktail dress with a fan-shaped neckline. When she accepted her award she thanked her family in heaven and those who are with her today. She is such a class act and I look for this to be her best year yet.

Here is a video of Jennifer accepting her award and performance for those of you who missed it.

Savvy Sistah: Madame CJ Walker

One of my favorite Savvy Sistahs of all time is Madame CJ Walker. When I was a young girl I would make my own skincare products and I never thought, that eventually I would manufacture my own bath & body line. I owe a lot of credit to this woman born Sarah Breedlove who lost both of her parents (they were former slaves) when she was just six years old. Because of her inventions and the fact that she was a savvy businesswoman, she eventually became the first female millionaire in the United States. She had a passion and desire to help women solve their skin & hair problems and to also help them create their own stream of income. Today I celebrate this brave Savvy Sistah for her legacy and for paving the way for me and other entrepreneurs.

She's Back: Whitney Houston

The 2nd annual BET Honors took place Saturday night in Washington DC and yes it was a start-studded event. This year it was hosted by talented actress Gabrielle Union and Savvy Sistah's Angela Bassett, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blidge, Yolanda Adams,Star Jones, B. Smith and Cookie Johnson were also in attendance.

I have seen many pictures from this event but for some reason the photos of Whitney Houston stood out the most. She looks good and appears to be drug free. I believe that she still is a talented singer and will go down in history as one of the best of all times.

Although Whitney did not perform (she presented an award to Tyler Perry) she is suppose to sing for Clive Davis' pre-grammy party in February, so maybe this time "She's Back" for good.

The BET Honors will air on BET, February 9th at 9:00pm.

Savvy Sistah: Nancy Wilson

Nancy Wilson is a classy jazz singer with a smooth voice. When I saw her in the Essence Magazine a few years ago it was hard to believe that she was born in 1937. I think alot of the young female singers of our day can learn alot from veterans like Ms. Wilson. This "song stylist" has over 70 albums, three Grammy awards and a career that spans over 50 years. She has won numerous awards including a NAACP Image Award, Trumpet Award and she even received her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. To prove that she still has what it takes at 70 years old she won a Grammy for The Best Jazz Vocal Album for "Turned to Blue". This classy, polished and talented silver haired songtress is still on top of her game and she's my Stylish & Sophisticated Celebrity of the Week.
